The reason for the season

They stole the winter solstice
Those Grinches way back then
Those followers of Jesus
Those shepherds and wise men

They thought old Saturnalia
was not the best of times
Replaced the winter solstice
and other nasty crimes

No time for celebrations
Gift-giving they did take
They took the decorations
And called us Pagans fake

They stole the gods and Goddess
replaced them with just one
This bloke was never happy
He took away all fun

And still when years did pass us
They took a hell lot more
Old Santa he was Odin
He brought those gifts and more

They took away our evergreens
Our songs and wassailing
And even nicked the Mistletoe
And used it for snogging!

So spare a thought this Yuletide
Try not to commit treason
Be proud of all your pagan kin
They're the reason for the season
