Mayday

 Some talk about yuletide
as a magical time of year
But magic and enchantment
To me is mayday cheer

For May, the veil is thinnest
Wee folk and fairies prance
See them through the hagstones
Through dolmens they will dance

The mother and the father*
Midsummers king and queen
Will meet upon the hillsides
Both wearing crowns of green

We'll honour them with fires
and gather knots of may
With ribbons we make garlands
dress wells with sweet bouquets

A time for blessing children
For feasting with all friends
A time for good intentions
True magic till the end

* Some believe that the winter aspect of the crone,
gives her crown to the maiden (spring)
and then to the mother (summer)
