The naming of dogs

Day 1 of NaPoWrimo 2019

A parody of cats Which if you haven't read, I implore you to do so. 

The name of a dog is a curious matter
For the name of a dog brings a status of that
and for that to be a positive thing
a name should not sound like the name of a cat

Dont fool yourself with a long awkward name
With a pun of a element found In a table
For I once knew a dog called Jollyplop copper
He had nought of friends for they thought him unstable

And the idea of fetch would cause some upset
For his name wasn't quick like the wave of a hand
So when told to retrieve, his name was too long
And he never did see where the ball did then land

Some dogs who are posh and bred with their own
Found only in the pedigree line
Are named silly things like Gerald de Kiwi
Ready for Crufts and a life that is fine

But the mutts and bitzers have names that inspire
Like Harvey, fluffy and old matted boy
Their fur is unkept and noses are wet
And they bounce and wag tails in a preposterous joy
