Night before rodent

Last year before Christmas, there was calm in the house
the only thing moving  was a little brown mouse
This rodent seemed friendly and happy and free
Till it chewed though the wires and blew up the tree
It went wild in the kitchen, causing all to awake
And left little black raisins on our nice Christmas cake

So this year we were ready, we set traps round the house
So we could catch the descendants of the little brown mouse
We set them near skirting and around our new tree
Where the little brown rodent like to run around all free
We heard the trap snap! Made us wake just like that
And we discovered our mouse was a ruddy great rat
