National poetry writing month

National poetry writing month
A month of madness

Friday, 5 November 2021

I used to

I used to like bonfire night
I used to dress the part
I used to walk in Sussex
From bonfire end to start

I used to hand out torches
And gather them the same
Stand aloft upon a trailer
In the frost and in the rain

I used to not mind loud bangs
Nor fireworks thrown near me
Not scared of big red flashes
Or those rookies tossed so free

I used to walk for miles
up hills and down again
I did not mind the mud
nor those puddles way back then

I used to like old bonfire night
But now I'm far too old
Id rather stay away from it
And stay in from the cold.
